Estonia - Week 12

After we left Happsalu we drove the relatively short distance to Parnu. We stayed the night in the middle of the town in the car park with no bother. The following morning we went out to explore.
Signs in English as well as Estonian

Todays Door

They love their trees
Great Street Art

The sign in the café lol
Check out the hairy legs!
There was such a buzz about the place, as in the centre, a race was just about to start. We think it must have been a half marathon because just under an hour later we saw a few of the same people walking around with medals hung from their necks.

No Shoes!!

We ate lunch out again and Andy even tried the herring salad. Everything is so inexpensive here it’s great.

There’s a huge beach in Parnu too with soft white powdery sand for the beach lovers. In the afternoon there were a couple of heavy rain showers amongst the sunny intervals, boy did it make it humid!
It didn’t stop us though. I can’t believe how lucky we’ve been with the weather. We can’t actually remember the last time it rained!!

The next town on our hit list was Viljandi. We did something a bit different and went into the tourist information centre first. To our amazement the lady spoke English and gave us a town map and a self guided walking tour. It was easy to follow and a great way to get to know the area.

We also picked up a tourist map of Estonia. We must do the same in every country we visit I think. It would make life a lot easier as we rely on google maps. It’s sometimes easier to look at the whole country when researching where to head for next.

We returned to Tallinn as we had plans to meet the boys from Juke Media GB who were flying out to film us with the Hymer ExsisT on Friday.

We found this amazing campsite just outside the city in a place called Vanamoisa. (We don’t usually do campsites but the washing basket was getting full and so was the toilet and we’d found no facilities, other than campsites, to sort either problem out). The site itself looked brand new with paved pitches, electric hook up, WiFi, kitchen, showers and toilets. The laundry room had brand new appliances and they’d even put a new washing line outside for everyone to use. The lady in reception spoke English and couldn’t have been more helpful. She also had an abundance of free leaflets and maps for the taking. September 2018 it cost us €20 per night with the ACSI card which included electric hook up. The only extra we paid was €4 each for the washing machine and tumble drier which you could use as many times as you wanted at no extra cost. It was lovely and peaceful and I can’t praise this place enough.
The following day we strolled to the the railway station (20 mins max) when this turned up lol. You'll be pleased to know, we waited for the next train :)

20 minutes later we arrived in the centre of Tallinn. It cost us €2 each one way (cash only) and we paid the lady on the train. The station is called Balti Jaam which I think is such a groovy name haha.

Just for reference, there are 2 supermarkets opposite the train station in Vanamoisa although in my opinion they’re not as good as the Selver supermarkets. Although we did see these roaming around the streets ...
You can read about them HERE

There’s also a car wash up the road so we treated Harriet to a clean so she looked her best for the film crew.

We headed for the old town in Tallinn which was just stunning. (It's also a Unesco World Heritage site).

Andy spotted a hair dressers and the lady in the doorway waved us in. I hadn’t had my hair cut for weeks and it was driving me mad. I asked her to cut just a little off the ends but I think it lost a bit in translation, as half an hour later it looked like this. I must admit though, I felt so much better afterwards. She also cut Andy’s hair and trimmed everything else including his eyebrows. Although it was expensive, we felt ready for anything.

We loved Tallinn so much we went in on the train again the next day. We headed straight for the tourist information in the centre of the old town where we joined Leena for a 2 hour walking tour. Have I told you, I love walking tours. This one was great too and her knowledge of the place was so good, I could have spent another couple of days exploring all the places she pointed out.

Friday morning the boys from Juke Media came to meet us. They set up their equipment and started interviewing us. It was quite hard coming up with answers to their questions but they did a good job making us feel at ease. Hope we come across ok on the finished film. Afterwards we went back into Tallinn with them and they followed us round with the camera.

The second day they came to meet us again and we headed out to Kasmu in the Laheema National Park, where we did some more filming with the drone as well as the hand held cameras. They had us doing a lot of kissing (though I’m not complaining) and walking through forests etc. The film should be ready in 5 weeks time so I hope we can share it on the blog.
