Switzerland and Piz Gloria

Well we've been properly shaken and stirred up in the mountains at Blofeld's Lair AKA Piz Gloria.

While searching for the ideal film location for "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", the 007 production team came across a partly constructed sports bar with a revolving floor on the Schilthorn summit. Set against a backdrop of dramatic, snow-topped mountains, which includes the Jungfrau, Monch & Eiger, it seemed the perfect setting for a villainous plot. The film's producer agreed to finance its completion in exchange for exclusive filming rights. If you're a fan of Mr Bond, it's great!!

To reach it we walked from the campsite at Lauterbrunnen, took a Gondola and narrow gauge train to Murren then another two Gondolas to the summit. We were glad of the snow because it's been so hot!!!

We had a bite to eat in the revolving restaurant where the 360o views of the mountains were spectacular. We walked along the "Thrill Walk", (how do they build such a thing?!!), and visited the "OHMSS" exhibition, which I must admit, was pretty cool. Oh and I found James Bond!

It now ranks in the top 5 experiences of our big adventure with the Hot Air Balloon ride in Pamukkale, Turkey, Whale Watching in the Lofoton islands, Norway, visiting Meteora in Greece and taking Harriet the Hymer across a river on a plank of wood in Albania.
